Individual counselling sessions focused on client's needs
Heidi Kubin
(She/Her/Hers)
Building a relationship based on trust, empathy, and respect is my top priority. I place a high value on relationships and believe that a positive therapeutic relationship is crucial to effective therapy. By creating a safe environment, I acknowledge that each individual is the expert on their own life. With this as a foundation, I strive to empower my clients to create their best lives. I am dedicated to putting the individual client’s needs at the center of my approach, recognizing that each client comes with their own unique experience and requirements. I believe that healing begins with acknowledgment, which involves two parts: - Becoming aware of our pain, understanding why we do things, and recognizing how we often interpret our experiences. - Having our experiences validated by someone with whom we have established a safe, empathetic, and caring relationship.
I am passionate about bringing personalized approaches to my clients as they navigate challenges such as anxiety, grief, self-esteem, relationship challenges, parenting support, anger management, emotional regulation, and depression.

Life is inevitably hard and full of challenges that can sometimes feel overwhelming. Stress, self-doubt, uncertainty, and fear are emotions we all face at some point. Whether you’re struggling with persistent anxiety, carrying the weight of past trauma, navigating difficult life transitions like divorce, entering adulthood, or dealing with loss, I’m here to support you. My goal is to help you unpack the challenges you’re facing and gain a deeper understanding of how your life story has shaped the way you see yourself and the world.
You can expect our sessions to feel natural, non-clinical, and safe. I offer a caring, curious, and non-judgmental approach, and I strive to build a secure, supportive relationship with you. I want you to feel heard and understood as we work together through whatever you’re going through. I believe that everyone has the inherent ability to navigate life’s obstacles, but sometimes, we all need a little support in realizing how to move forward.
I take a person-centered approach, which means I’ll spend time getting to know you and learning what works best for you, both in therapy and in life. My approach is grounded in empathy, and I’m deeply committed to walking alongside you as you find the strength to face life’s challenges. We’ll work together to find strategies that align with your unique needs.
I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and am licensed through the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counselling. Most insurance plans cover my services.
My own life experiences have been a driving force behind my decision to become a counsellor. I’ve been through a divorce, experienced the loss of loved ones, and navigated the complexities of raising children, so I deeply understand the pain and uncertainty these transitions can bring. While I’m open to supporting you with any challenge, I have a particular interest in life transitions.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me spending time with family and friends, traveling, or enjoying the outdoors. I love staying active—whether it’s skiing, canoeing, mountain biking, or playing volleyball. I’m happiest and healthiest when I’m with the people I love and in the beauty of nature.

I am a South Asian female counsellor with over seven years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through life’s challenges. Originally from India, I have a deep understanding of the complexities of cultural identity, resilience, and how personal experiences shape mental health. I am fluent in Hindi and English, with a basic understanding of Punjabi. I specialize in working with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship and family challenges, trauma, self-esteem concerns, and career transitions.
Approach
I view counselling as a collaborative journey, guided by a person-centered approach that honors clients as the experts in their own lives. My style is grounding and supportive, creating a space where clients feel validated, heard, and empowered. I help clients explore their emotional worlds, gaining deeper insight into how their past, present, and future experiences shape their perspectives. With a tailored approach to each individual’s unique journey, I provide a steady and reflective space that fosters self-exploration and meaningful change. My work integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).
Education
I hold a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) degree from Sophia College, India and a Master of Science in Counselling from Johns Hopkins University, USA. I am currently completing the Gottman Method Couples Therapy Training, which I am thoroughly enjoying.
Away from work
Outside of work, I enjoy exploring nature, experimenting with cooking, and spending quality time with loved ones. I also find great satisfaction in organizing and cleaning, often dedicating a good part of my free time to it.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with over a decade of experience supporting children, youth, families, and individuals in both K–12 school settings and community-based organizations. I offer counselling services in both English and Mandarin. My lived experience across cultures—and as a parent to three daughters—has deepened my understanding of the complexities that come with adjusting to new environments and navigating life’s many transitions. I have a particular interest in supporting newcomer families and individuals during times of change and growth. Whether you’re seeking support for anxiety, depression, parenting, relationship challenges, stress, or simply want to explore new ways of showing up in your life, I would be honoured to walk alongside you on your journey.
My counselling approach is grounded in Bowen Family Systems Theory, which means I work with clients to better understand themselves within the context of their relationships—both past and present and to gain increasing awareness of relational patterns across generations. I aim to support clients in developing a more objective understanding of the challenges they face, and in doing so, cultivate greater thoughtfulness in how they relate to themselves and others.
In addition to family systems work, I integrate tools and strategies from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Play Therapy, Positive Discipline parenting, and SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) Treatment. My practice is trauma-informed and culturally sensitive, grounded in professional integrity and a commitment to continuous learning.
